Census 2000 Summary 100% Data Profiles School District Files
The Census Bureau has released two different data files containing data for each block in the state. Using these files, we have produced summaries for the school districts in New York State as they existed on July 1, 1999.
Questions regarding school districts, populations, or boundaries may be referred to the New York State Education Department (518) 474-5213.
The first summary provides total population, non-Hispanic
population by race, Hispanic, and population under 18 counts
for every school district in the state.

Section 1 Profiles provide a general
overview of each geographic area showing general
distributions and limited cross-tabulations of the topics
covered in this dataset.
Section 2 Profiles contain data on:
single-year of age by sex for persons under 20 years old,
household relationship by age, type of group quarters by age
and sex, counts of households by various household types,
occupied housing units by household size, and occupied
housing units by household type.
These profiles are presented in alphabetical order by school
district name.

School District Notes:
Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District – This is a
district providing high school education for the students of
the Bellmore, Merrick, North Bellmore, and North Merrick
Union Free School Districts. Data shown is the total
for all four component school districts, which are also
shown separately.
Binghamton Common School District – This is a non-operating
school district. The students of this district receive
their education from the Binghamton City School District
under a contract between these two school districts.
Data are shown for both of these school districts.
NYC Chancellor’s Office – This is the total for the entire
New York City School District. It is divided into 32
community school districts, which are shown individually
under their individual names (e.g., Bronx Community School
District #10). Data are shown for all 33 of these
school districts.
Sewanhaka Central High School District – This is a district
providing high school education for the students of the
Elmont, Floral Park-Bellerose, Franklin Square, and New Hyde
Park-Garden City Park Union Free School Districts. Data
shown is the total for all four component school districts,
which are also shown separately.
School District Not Defined – This represents 60 census
blocks around New York State that are not assigned to school
districts. Generally, these blocks do not have any
population. However, several blocks do have a
population totaling about 12,000 people. The blocks
with residents are all located on the Fort Drum military
base. School-aged residents of these areas attend any
one of several school districts in the nearby area.
Special Act School Districts – These are school districts
created by special acts of the state legislature.
Generally, they represent residential facilities, such as
youth detention facilities, providing educational services.
Data for these districts are not presented in this report.
Valley Stream Central High School District - This is a
district providing high school education for the students of
the Valley Stream 13, Valley Stream 24, and Valley Stream 30
Union Free School Districts. Data shown is the total
for all three component school districts, which are also
shown separately.
